PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for the number of pump allowing pump operation with high followability corresponding to load variation and high efficiency. SOLUTION: The flow rate of fluid discharged from a plurality of pumps 15, 17 with different capacity is detected as a load value by a flow meter 29. The actual load value is stored in an actual load memory part 37a. The load predicting value after prescribed time is predicted by a predicting arithmetic part 37b on the basis of the actual load value up to yesterday and the present actual load value. The present usable pumps are determined and the capacity classification of the optimal next starting/stopping pump corresponding to the load variation on the basis of the capacity of the usable pumps and the load predicting value is determined by a priority pump classifying processing part 39. The load value for starting/stopping is determined and the number of pumps are controlled by a number control processing part on the basis of starting/ stopping order concerned to the capacity classification of the next starting/ stopping pump and the usable pump.
