The rucksack, comprising a main compartment (18) with a rear panel (12) and shoulder straps (14), a front panel (20) connected to the rear panel by flexible side panels (22), and side pouches (26) with additional flexible panels (34), has compression straps (42) of adjustable length attached at one end to the pouch panel (34). The side pouch is accesses through an opening (40) in an inner folding wall, e.g. fitted with a sliding clasp fastener, and invisible from the outside when the straps are tightened.
