A multi-spindle gearless drilling head comprises a spindle 36 adapted to be keyed to a machine tool spindle 10 at 13, a crank-pin 56 formed on spindle 36, which is rotatably supported in a drive plate 54, idler cranks 68, an oscillator plate 96 secured to plate 54, and tool spindles 152, having cranks 154 which are supported in plate 96. A counterweight 52 for counterbalancing crank-pin 56 and plate 54 is mounted on a portion 48 of spindle 36, and plate 54 has bearing pads 92 which float on support pads 84. Bearings 38, 64 are lubricated by an oil mist converter and the needle bearings which journal cranks 68 are lubricated through oiler caps 74. In operation, spindle 36 is rotated, crank-pin 56 moves in a translatory circular manner, and moves the plate 54 in the same manner. Cranks 68 control the movement of plate 54, and this movement provides rotation of tool spindles 152. Where spindles are omitted for a particular pattern, plugs are inserted in plate 96, to prevent unbalance. |
