901,756. Hinges and pivots. AEROSCIENCE Inc. May 27, 1960 [June 1, 1959], No. 18886/60. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A spring unit which may act as a substitute for a pivot or knife edge &c. comprises an integral block recessed to form a flexible web 16, Fig. 1, extending between rigid attachment plates 11, 12 which are supported against relative rotation or other relative movements in the parallel plane of the plates by flexible webs 21, 22 extending normally to the plane of the central web 16 adjacent opposite edges thereof and integral with rigid legs 17-20 extending from the attachment plates. The arrangement confines the flexing of the unit to the axis A-A passing through the centres of the webs. The amount of flexing is limited by the engagement of the faces of the attachment plates with the ends of the legs 17-20 which are cut to provide clearances d which predetermine the degree of flexing. For supporting heavy loads, several units may be arranged side-by-side. Flexing in more than one direction may be obtained by arranging one unit above the other with the central webs at right-angles to each other. A micrometer screw device may be arranged between the blocks for adjustment of height. |
