PURPOSE: An apparatus for managing a user account of an operator in a communication system and a method therefor are provided to directly change or correct the user account of the operator, change the user account of the operator in an external management system such as an EMS(Element Management System) or GUI(Graphic User Interface), change the user account by the connected operator, and perform a history management. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(25) monitors and controls a switch equipment in which a communication path is set up by a switching operation. An account manager(35) manages information such as a name or ID, a password, and a privilege about an operator who maintains and manages the switch equipment. A D/B(45) stores information and data necessary for operating the switch equipment. A history recovering module(55) traces an operated history of the switch equipment by the control of the operator. A command unit(80) processes a command such as an add, a delete, and a modify inputted by the operator A level confirming unit(90) confirms a level or a secret use admission level of the operator capable of operating the switch equipment. A local terminal(65) is installed a local area for connecting to the switch equipment, and inputting the command for operating the switch equipment and log-in and log-out information. A remote terminal(75) is installed in a remote area for connecting to the switch equipment, and inputting the command for operating the switch equipment and log-in and log-out information.
