PURPOSE: An antagonistic composition containing as a main component an extract of Lxeris chinensis var. exhibiting specified antagonistic action against dioxin or dioxin-like compounds is provided. The composition has lower toxicity than synthetic medicines, effectively reduces toxicity of the dioxin-like material and can used as food additives as well as drugs. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition contains a pharmaceutically effective amount of a Lxeris chinensis var. extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and interrupts the action on a signal transduction pathway related with a xenobiotic response element of a dioxin-like compound. The dioxin-like compound is selected from the group consisting of PCDD, PCDF and PCB.
