PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a higher quantity/quality of cloth detection accuracy. SOLUTION: A changeover clutch mechanism 62 is controlled to a driving pattern in which a spinning tub 2 is made free to rotate so that a driving force in the direction opposite to an agitation blade 4 is applied by a reaction force in the driving of the agitation blade and the agitation blade is driven to detect the amount of load thereby reducing effect on the changeover clutch mechanism.
