The internal covering screen 4 of a sieve drum drier 3 is mounted by arms 6 on a rigid shaft 5 supported at one end by a bearing 11 and at the drive end 5b by a supporting ring 20 in a drive housing 16 mounted outside the treatment chamber wall 1A, which housing accommodates a worm gear and bearings 19 supporting a hollow driving shaft 15 through which the shaft 5 projects. The drum has a bearing flange 17 on one end face with splines into which the end of the shaft 15 extends by a crowned spline shaft attachment 15a for driving and supporting the drum and a bearing pedestal 18 is fixed to the wall 1A to rest the flange 17 when assembly and repair operations are undertaken.
