PURPOSE: Shock absorbing structure of a steering system for a vehicle is provided to protect a driver and minimize impact by absorbing shock with moving a steering column impact absorbing member forward and crushing a steering column assembling part at a collision. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing device of a steering system has a steering column impact absorbing member(41) fitted to a steering column(22), and two cowl cross member mounting members(45) combined with both ends of the steering column impact absorbing member by assembling pins(43) and installed in the cowl cross member. The steering column impact absorbing member includes a steering column assembling part(41a) fitted to the steering column, and two mounting member assembling parts(41b) extended integrally in both ends of the steering column assembling part and assembled with the cowl cross mounting members. The driver is protected by absorbing shock efficiently at a collision.
