PURPOSE: An antagonistic composition containing as a main component an extract of Caryophylli Flos which suppresses the intracellular action of a dioxin-like compound by interruption of a signal transduction pathway related with a xenobiotic response element of a dioxin-like compound is provided. The composition has a low adverse effect on a human body and shows antagonistic action against the dioxin-like compound while effectively reducing toxicity of the dioxin-like compound. Therefore, it can be used in health foods, medicines and food additives. CONSTITUTION: The antagonistic composition contains a pharmaceutically effective amount of a Caryophylli Flos(Eugenia caryophyllata Thunb) extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The dioxin-like compound is selected from the group consisting of PCDD, PCDF and PCB. For an example, 1g of Caryophylli Flos is distilled in 4ml of distilled water at 121deg.C for 30min, 80ml of Caryophylli Flos extract is mixed with 10ml of liquid fructose, 0.5ml of citric acid and 9.5ml of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract to produce a health drink.
