PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone unit enabling smooth conversation with the opposite party without speaking. SOLUTION: The portable telephone unit includes a response message generation means 10 which generates a response message containing a plurality of choices, a response message storage means 11 which stores the response message as a text data, a voice data conversion means 12 which reads out the text data of the stored response message and converts the text data to a voice data, a voice data output means 13 which outputs voice to the opposite party by the use of the converted voice data, and a response message selection means 14 which selects an appropriate response message from the choices by a predetermined key operation during communication.
