PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin valve vertically energized magnetoresistive effect element that is large in resistance variation, and to provide a magnetic head and a magnetic reproducing device using the element. SOLUTION: The resistance of the spin-dependent conduction performing part of this spin valve vertically energized magnetoresistive effect element can be raised to an appropriate value, and, in its turn, the resistance variation of the element can be increased by inserting a resistance adjusting layer composed of a material containing conduction carriers at a rate of <=10<22> carrier/cm<3> into an magnetoresistive effect layer.
