SUBSTRUCTURE FOR A FLOATING OFFSHORE PLATFORM

A substructure for a floating offshore platform comprises one or more lower pontoons (1) and substantially vertical columns (2) with a substantially constant cross sectional area projecting upwards from the pontoon(s) (1). The substructure is exposed in the water (13) to wave forces that induce heave motion of the substructure. The substructure may be provided with a central column (3) with a conical portion (4), which during heave motion moves through the surface of the water. Alternatively, the substructure may be provided with conical elements that are mounted on the outside of one or more of the columns (2), forming one or more conical portions, which during heave motion move through the surface of the water.
