The invention relates to a microemulsion from non-ionic surfactants, water and one or more hydrophobic components in which the non-ionic surfactants used are sugar-based surfactants and have a viscosity preferably at a shear rate of 500 s<-1> that ranges between 400 and 1500 mPas at 5 DEG C and between 100 and 1000 mPas at 40 DEG C. The microemulsion is prepared by mixing the components at ambient temperature or at 60 to 70 DEG C and by leaving it to stand, and can be provided as a product comprising an applicator. The inventive microemulsion is used as stain pretreatment agent for soiled textiles or as a cleaning agent for hard surfaces. For removing stains from textiles, the agent is applied onto the stain, optionally rubbed in, the textile is left to briefly soak, is optionally rinsed with water and is then washed.
