DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF INSULIN−DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS AND INSULITIS
摘要
Insulin−dependent diabetes mellitus and insulitis can be photodynamically diagnosed or photodynamically treated by administering a fluorescent photosensitive substance which is specifically incorporated by macrophages infiltrating into an inflammation site of the islet of a patient with insulin−dependent diabetes mellitus due to insulitis or an X ray−absorbing substance which is specifically incorporated by the macrophages as described above and absorbs X ray upon irradiation with X ray, then irradiating the part of the pancreas involving the macrophage infiltrating into the inflammation site due to insulitis with excitation light or X−ray, and observing the fluorescence or X ray absorption occurring at the inflammation site; or allowing the photosensitive substance or the X ray−absorbing substance to injure or disrupt the macrophages under irradiation with light or X ray at a sufficiently strong irradiation dose. Diagnostic compositions or therapeutic compositions appropriate for the above−described diagnosis or treatment are provided.
