PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit which can shorten the machining time necessary for repeatedly cutting off small plates from an edge of a plate material and can prevent generation of hair-like burrs. SOLUTION: A right angle shearing machine 1 includes a lower L shape fixed blade 8 and an upper L shape vertically movable blade 7, which are engage-able with each other. Both lower blade 8 and upper blade 7 carry out the cutting-off operation from a free end in the X-direction along one side of the L shape up to a free end in the Y-direction along the other side of the L shape via an intersection point 7c of both sides. A control unit 14 includes an elevating range restricting means 18. When the edge of the plate material W along the Y-direction is successively cut off as a partial plate piece in the Y-direction one by one, the elevating range restricting means 18 does not lower the upper blade 7 to a lower dead point. But, the upper blade 7 is lowered until its cutting tip arrives the position lower than the plate material W over the whole length range of the partial plate piece, which has been cut-off previously at the edge of the plate material. When the last plate piece at the edge of the plate material is cut-off, the elevating range restricting means 18 lowers the upper blade 7 up to the lower dead point.
