METHOD OF PLASTICIZING POLYVINYL CHLORIDE RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of selecting a plasticizer which gives a resin composition excellent both in cold resistance and in electrical insulation when a phthalic acid diester plasticizer is blended with a polyvinyl chloride resin. SOLUTION: The phthalic acid diester is selected so that X of formula (1) may be 6-15 and Y of formula (2) may be 15-60 wherein X is an index of cold resistance and Y is an index of electrical insulation (n denotes the carbon number of the longest carbon chain specified from the hydroxy group of the alcohol constituting the phthalic acid diester; Aa specifies the branching state of the a-th carbon atom of the longest carbon chain, i.e., Aa =1 when a branch exists and Aa =0 when no branch exists; Bb denotes the carbon number of the branched carbon chain starting from the b-th carbon of the longest chain).
