<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyvinyl alcohol detection method capable of properly detecting polyvinyl alcohol by selectively introducing a fluorine atom into polyvinyl alcohol, and a size treatment evaluation method using the same. SOLUTION: In the polyvinyl alcohol detection method, polyvinyl alcohol and the hydroxyl group of a material containing at least one kind of a compound having a hydroxyl group of which the esterification reaction speed due to trifluoroacetic anhydride is lower than that of polyvinyl alcohol are esterified using trifluoroacetic anhydride to selectively introduce a fluorine atom into polyvinyl alcohol.</p> |
