摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which has cell gap uniformity in a liquid crystal cell. SOLUTION: A manufacturing method for obtaining an aligned substrate having a desired cell gap by aligning a substrate 14 which has image display parts 3A1 to 2An formed almost in matrix and a substrate 12 together is characterized by comprising the stages of applying a main sealant 15 to the circumference of an image display part formed on one substrate; applying an outer circumferential sealant 16 so that the outermost circumference of an area where the main sealants 15 are arranged is surrounded with the sealant 16; temporarily aligning the two substrates under a vacuum while pressing and holding them by upper and lower surface plates 27 and 28 and forming a sealed space between the two substrates with the outer circumferential sealant; forming the aligned substrate 31 by causing a leak from the vacuum atmosphere to the atmospheric pressure in the temporary aligning state and pressing the two substrates until the desired cell gasp is obtained; measuring the cell gap of the aligned substrate; and performing regular alignment by irradiating the aligned substrate with the desired cell gap with ultraviolet rays.
