<p>The quality of image projected by a projector comprising a color separating/combining optical system using a 45−degree dichroic element is enhanced by reducing the dependence of the spectral characteristics of the 45−degree dichroic element on the polarization.The illumination optical system has a color light direction changing element(40)and a polarization converting element(50).The color light changing element(40)separates the light into a green light and a blue+red light,and the polarization converting element(50)adjusts the directions of polarization of the lights.</p> |
