A method of increasing the lubricity of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel comprising the addition of one or more compounds of formula (I) where R 1 is a C 10 -C 150 alkenyl group, one of R 2 and R 3 is -OH or the residue of a C 1-20 monohydroxy alcohol and the other of R 2 and R 3 is -OH or the residue of either a C 1-20 monohydroxy alcohol or a C 1-20 polyhydroxy alcohol, with the proviso that R 2 and R 3 are not both -OH.
