PURPOSE: A catalyst for the polymerization and copolymerization of ethylene and its preparation method are provided, to improve the catalyst activity and to obtain a polymer having a high apparent density due to the control of the shape of catalyst particles and a high hydrogen reactivity. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of contacting a halogenated magnesium compound with an alcohol to prepare a magnesium solution; reacting the magnesium solution with an ester compound having at least one hydroxy group and a silicon compound having an alkoxy group; and recrystallizing the obtained product by treating it with a titanium compound and a haloalkane compound, to prepare a solid titanium catalyst. The silicon compound is represented by R1aR2bR3cR4dSi(OR5)e, wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are different each another or the same and are a hydrocarbon group of C1-C12; and a, b, c, d and e are an integer of 0-4 and a+b+c+d+e=4. The titanium compound is represented by Ti(OR)aX(4-a), wherein R is an alkyl group of C1-C10; X is a halogen atom; and a is an integer of 0-4.
