PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling an alternating current generator for vehicles and a method thereof are provided to improve the accuracy in the determination of an operation state of the alternating current generator by controlling an 'L' terminal of the alternating current generator through an engine control device. CONSTITUTION: An alternating current generator(100) is connected to an engine by a belt to generate an alternating current according to the operation state of the engine. An engine control device(200) is connected to an 'L' terminal of the alternating current generator(100) to control a turn-on/off control signal of a battery warning light according to the change of detected voltage. A warning lamp(300) is synchronized with the turn-on/off control signal of the battery warning light to output the operation state of the alternating current generator(100) to the operator.
