EL ELEMENT WITH FUNCTIONAL LAYER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element with a functional layer displaying a desired function and at the same time enhancing luminescent performance. SOLUTION: This EL element is composed of at least a first electrode; an EL layer formed on the first electrode; and a second electrode formed on the EL layer. An functional layer containing a metal oxide and a silicon-containing compound is installed between the first electrode and the EL layer, or between the second electrode and the EL layer, and 25-52 wt.% silicon-containing compound is contained in the functional layer.
