PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk characteristic evaluating device, which directly senses the position extremely near to a core part of a magnetic head, controls the positional information by feedback, and thereby, improves positioning accuracy. SOLUTION: This magnetic head disk characteristic evaluating device is provided with a stage, on which a coarse adjustment stage 14 in which a head clamp 18 having a magnetic head 1 on the tip thereof is disposed on a head load mechanism, is mounted on the surrounding of the magnetic disk 12. Therein, a piezo stage 21 which holds the magnetic head 1 of the head clamp 18, a laser head 17 which directs the surface to be irradiated over the head clamp 18 and a reflection type scale 22 which forms light-shielding stripes of regular intervals by vapor deposition as a coated film on the rear surface of the mounting surface of the piezo stage 21 are disposed on the head clamp 18. In addition, the position of the magnetic head 1, on the magnetic disk, is detected from the reflection light of a reflection type scale 22, and the head clamp 18 is controlled by error signals (switch 26, DET 27 and head-end position detection 26b) between the detection value and the reference track position.
