PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for transmitting image data that can display a plurality of image areas with high priority on a display screen at the same time, and compress the image data while keeping the image quality of an image area with the high priority and efficiently transmit the compressed image. SOLUTION: An image processing section 6 generates image information with distance data from a plurality of left and right images picked up by a stereo camera of an image input section 5, extracts prescribed object image information from the image information, divides the object image information into an image area of a prescribed range including an object and the other image areas when an object indication setting section 10 discriminates that the object image information includes feature information of a particular object to be displayed on an image display device section 9 with priority, and an image encoding section 7 compresses the image data at a compression rate designated in advance by each image area and transmits the compressed image data, an image decoding section 8 decodes the transmitted image data and the image display device section 9 displays the decoded image data. |
