PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head slier where the product yield of the magnetic head slider is increased in the forming process of the magnetic head, and additionally its durability is improved significantly, and to provide its manu facturing method. SOLUTION: In the magnetic head slider 31, having two or more steps 5, 6 in the depth direction from a magnetic floating surface 7, and the depth of the step closer to the floating surface 7 set to 300 nm or lower, protective film 11 is provided in the floating surface 7 and all the steps 5, 6. The surface of the protective film 1 will not deteriorate.
