PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-priming volute pump that ensures an efficient gas/ liquid change in a pump casing 10 at a start of operation and a quick shift to a pumping operation, and that prevents a distortion of a discharge flow and increases efficiency in the pumping operation. SOLUTION: A partition wall 36 is arranged in a passage direction in a passage ranging from an impeller chamber 32 to a discharge chamber 34 in the pump casing 10 to thus form a lead chamber 38 into which part of discharge fluid flows. A cyclone separator 26 is disposed outside the pump casing 10. An inflow opening 26a of the cyclone separator 26 is in communication with the lead chamber 38 via a communicating pipe 42, an outflow opening 26b from which separated gas flows out is in communication with a short discharge pipe 18 via a communicating pipe 44, and a circulating opening 26c from which separated liquid flows out is in communication with suction chambers 48a and 48b via a communicating pipe 46.
