PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera which can detect foreign matters in its image pickup optical path of an electronic camera which detects foreign matters in its image pickup optical path. SOLUTION: This electronic camera is equipped with an image pickup element which is provided in a housing, a shading means which is provided in the housing and places the inside of the housing in a dark-box state, a light source for lighting which is provided in the housing, an image recognizing means which recognizes an image signal corresponding to an image formed on the image pickup element with the light emitted by the light source for lighting in the housing placed in the dark-box state, and a foreign matters detecting means which compares a plurality of image signals from the image recognizing means and detects foreign matters in the image pickup optical path when one image signal superposes a noise component of higher density than that of another image signal on the image signal. |
