PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sclareolide and/or its equivalent substance, in which a production time including a reaction time and a reaction product-treating time is shortened without using a halogen-based solvent having undesirable influence on the environment in a single step by using sclareol as a starting raw material. SOLUTION: This method for producing sclareolide and/or its equivalent substance is characterized by carrying out oxidation reaction in the presence of an alkaline substance, a ruthenium catalyst, a hypochlorite, a phase-transfer catalyst and a cyclic hydrocarbon solvent in the method for producing sclareolide and/or its equivalent substance from sclareol by a single-step oxidation reaction. |
