PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce fuel consumption of an HST vehicle. SOLUTION: The controller for the HST vehicle is provided with a target vehicle speed calculating means 21 of determining a target vehicle speed VT in response to an accelerator manipulated variable UA, an engine output horsepower calculating means 23 of calculating an engine output horsepower LE, an optimum engine speed command calculating means 24 of determining an optimum engine speed command N0 so that an operating point of an engine 1 comes on an optimum fuel consumption line in response to the engine output horsepower LE, and a target HST speed ratio calculating means 27 of determining a target HST speed ratio RT from the target vehicle speed VT and an engine speed NE. It is composed so as to control a speed ratio of an HST 6 so that the target HST speed ratio RT is provided.
