PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity of an apparatus for gluing and bookbinding by shortening a waiting time in a sheet bundle forming step of forming a sheet bundle by glue coating treatment and a casing-in and bookbinding step of adhering a cover to a back cover to the bundle. SOLUTION: The apparatus for gluing and bookbinding comprises a casing-in and bookbinding unit for covering a back surface of the sheet bundle with the back cover by superposing a cover with the glued bundle and casing-in a back of the bundle with the cover. The apparatus has a first waiting position for sequentially receiving the back cover and the cover to be conveyed and temporarily placing the covers, a second waiting position for conveying the back cover in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction to the first waiting position and temporarily placing the back cover, and a third waiting position for conveying the following back cover and the cover to an upstream side of the conveying direction of the fist waiting position and temporarily placing the covers.
