PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a host computer in which the residual quantity of ink in recording heads used in a plurality of ink jet recorders can be managed at a low cost, and a system and a method for managing the residual quantity of ink. SOLUTION: An ink jet recorder calculates ink consumption only of a specified recording head during recording operation, a residual quantity of ink calculating means calculates the residual quantity of ink of the specified recording head using the calculated ink consumption, and a host computer prepares and centrally manages the list of the residual quantity of ink of respective heads. With reference to the information of the residual quantity of ink, a user can know the correct residual quantity of ink, as required, at the time of starting the recording operation, for example, and can select other appropriate recording head in case of ink deficiency. |
