COMPOSITE ELECTRICAL INSULATOR HAVING INTEGRATED OPTICAL FIBER SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite electrical insulator capable of solving defects which are found in the conventional technologies. SOLUTION: The composite electrical insulator is furnished with an integrated optical fiber sensor arranged inside the insulator. The sensor may be of a fault sensor, consisting of an optical fiber 5 installed on a supporting rod of the insulator and having an optical cladding melting at the critical temperature of the insulator. Also the sensor may be of a type for measuring mechanical stresses or thermal stresses acting on the insulator during operation. The optical fiber of the sensor is formed by implanting the Bragg grating, which is installed on the support rod of the insulator or its terminal metal piece.
