PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for managing medical information with which medical information can be shared among a plurality of medical institutions or other institutions safely without necessity for a patient to carry a means to be used only for extracting medical information on an IC card or the like. SOLUTION: The system is provided with portable communication terminal equipment to be carried by the patient, a transmitter for transmitting personal authentication information to be issued to the patient through a communication line to the portable communication terminal equipment, a managing server for recording and managing the medical information of the patient in relation to the personal authentication information and medical institution communication terminal equipment installed in the medical institution and connected with the managing server by the communication line. The medical institution communication terminal equipment transmits the personal authentication information outputted from the portable communication terminal equipment to the managing server and acquires the personal medical information of the patient from the managing server.
