PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of transporting desired high-mass ions by eliminating as many of low-mass ions derived from a solvent as possible. SOLUTION: The voltage difference between a DC voltage applied to a skimmer 16 and a bias DC voltage applied to each pole-shaped electrode of an ion guide 17 is appropriately regulated so that, of ions passing through the skimmer 16, those with masses lower than a predetermined mass are not introduced into the ion guide 17. Thus, because a space charge in the ion guide 17 is not affected by large amounts of low-mass ions, the efficiency of transporting high- mass ions is enhanced.
