PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure rapid action of a temperature fuse even if the acting temperature of the temperature fuse is made sufficiently higher so as to make a secondary battery display its performance satisfactorily, when the fuse is melted and cut off to stop charging by a temperature rise caused when the secondary battery is charged. SOLUTION: This is a method of stopping charging by fitting a fuse 1 having a specified melting point to a secondary battery E in such a way as to be able to transmit heat, and melting the fuse to stop charging by a temperature rise of the secondary battery E generated when the secondary battery E is overcharged. A resistor 2 is connected in series to the fuse 1, and the resistor 2 is energized by a charging power source B, generates heat, and preheats the fuse 1 when charging is carried out. When the secondary battery discharges, no discharging current is caused to flow in the resistor 2, and the resistor 2 is made to be in the state of not generating heat.
