Treatment of effluents that are at least partly biodegradable and free of toxic substances comprises subjecting the effluent to aerobic and/or anaerobic biological treatment, mixing the resulting sludge with treated effluent or other liquid, filtering the mixture and feeding the filtrate under pressure into a micro-irrigation system of a planted area. Treatment of effluents that are at least partly biodegradable and free of toxic substances comprises subjecting the effluent to aerobic and/or anaerobic biological treatment, mixing the resulting sludge with treated effluent or other liquid, filtering the mixture to remove particles with a size of at least 130 mu m and feeding the filtrate under pressure into a micro-irrigation system of a planted area as fertilizer. An Independent claim is also included for apparatus for carrying out the above process which comprises an aerobic and/or anaerobic biological treatment unit, optionally a decanter, optionally a mixer; a filter, a circulating pump and a micro-irrigation system.
