PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit capable of properly reproducing the gradation of a picture even in a flash emitted photographed scene. SOLUTION: This image pickup unit for acquiring picture information aa by allowing a stroboscope to emit a light as necessary, and for operating the photoelectric conversion of a subject image-formed by a lens is provided with a flash information acquiring information 27 for acquiring stroboscope relevant information jj related with the stroboscope (the presence or absence of flash, flash light quantity, and subject distance or the like), a photographic condition estimating circuit 28 for analyzing the distribution of luminance at the central part of the picture and the peripheral part from picture information hh to be processed based on the picture information aa, and for estimating a photographic scene based on the analyzed information and the stroboscope relevant information jj, and a gradation control circuit 29 for controlling the gradation of a picture by changing weighting at the time of generating a gradation conversion curve according to the estimated result of the photographic condition estimating circuit 28. |
