PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing apparatus and the picture erasing method thereof whereby the pictures so considered as to be unnecessary generally can be retrieved in a simple operation. SOLUTION: When sensing the shortage of the storing capacity of the picture storage of the photographing apparatus in the case of pressing its release button, as shown in the Fig., photographed multiple pictures arranged in the order of their effectivenesses are displayed in a display together with a command key for ordering in which the candidates of the pictures should be erased from a predetermined view-point. When the command key is selected, the display order of the multiple pictures is changed into the display order indicated by the command key in which the candidates of the pictures should be erased from the predetermined view-point. Photographing can be so continued that a user erases the pictures by viewing the multiple pictures.
