The system sends digital images to a terminal (2,3,4) over a network which is at least partly public. The system has a central station (20) with a server (5) with connection (13) to a digital image storage unit (7). A new image can be calculated from the stored image, adapted to the terminal display characteristics, and a temporary file prepared for transmission to each terminal.
