The electro-optical device includes an optical substrate (100) with an optical guide (110) and a nematic liquid crystal (200). The liquid crystal is split into two separate active zones (210,220) with electrodes which control respectively the coupling/decoupling of one of the polarisations (TE or TM) of the injected optical signal. The electrode pairs are orthogonal to each other. The electro-optical device consists of at least one optical substrate (100) comprising an optical guide (110) and a nematic liquid crystal (200) which is placed against the substrate. The liquid crystal is split into two separate active zones (210,220) which are used to control respectively the coupling/decoupling of one of the polarisations (TE or TM) of the optical signal injected in the guide (110). The system includes two pairs of electrodes (310,312; 320,322), each associated with one part of the liquid crystal material and disposed on either side of the section of material. The orientations of the electrodes of one pair is orthogonal to the orientation of the electrodes of the other pair. |
