The adjusting gear comprises a wave toothed element with inner circular wave-shaped surfaces (32) rotatable about a rotary axis (33) and having a number (V) of undulating indentations (V). The transfer elements are held by a holder which holds a second number of transfer elements (34) which deviates from the number of indentations. The transfer elements are in permanent contact with the wave shaped surface of the toothed element and an eccentric device (36a) presses the transfer elements against the wave shaped surface. An operating device (16) for rotating the eccentric device in a preselectable rotary direction relative to the toothed element comprises a drive element and at least two spring-tensioned clamping wedges (44) with oppositely aligned friction faces which can be moved selectively by the drive element against the pretension of the compression springs (46).
