[Also in Division C5E] The invention comprises organometallic complexes of the formula where n is zero or an integer from 1 to 4; each R is selected from lower alkyl (C 1 -C 4 ) group, aryl group having from 6 to 16 carbon atoms, hydroxy group, nitro group, halide, dialkyl. amino, diarylamino and alkarylamino groups having 2 to 12 carbon atoms, or alkoxy or aryloxy group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; M is Ru, Pt, Os, Pd, Ir, or Rh; Y is chloride bromide, nitrate, acetate, thiocyanate or cyanide group; A is -CR<SP>1</SP> =N- (where R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms), and Z is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, aryl group or alkaryl, an alkoxy or aryloxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a hydroxy group, or an alkylamino, dialkylamino, arylamino or diarylamino group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms. Such compounds may be prepared by reacting compounds of the formula which have at least one hydrogen atom ortho to the A substituent. The invention also comprises compounds of the formulµ where L is a ligand selected from an amide, an amine, an alkene, nitric oxide, dimethyl sulph. oxide, carbon monoxide, a nitrile or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl phosphine, arsine, or stibene. The organometallic complexes may be used as catalysts in the carbonylation, dimerization, hydrogenation or isomerization of olefinically unsaturated compounds. Examples describe the preparation of 3-butenoyl chloride (Examples 11 to 13); 3-methyl-3-butenoyl chloride (14 to 17); methyl phenyl acetate (18); benzoyl chloride (19); diallyl ether (20); allyl 3- butenoate (20); 3-chloropropionyl chloride (21); 3 - chloro - 3 - phenyl propionyl chloride (22); 2-methyl glytaronitride (25, 26); 1,4-dicyanobutene - 1 (25, 26); 1,4 - dicyanobutene - 2 (26); dimethyl dehydroadipate (27). |
