AIRCRAFT AND CONTROL SYSTEM

A vertical takeoff aircraft (100) uses ducted fans (200) for lift and propulsion. The fans are attached to an airframe (110) and are disposed on opposite lateral sides of the aircraft (100). The thrust from the each of the fans (200) may be deflected in different directions by using vanes with flaps disposed within the ducts of the fans (200), as well as by tilting the entire fan (200) assemblies. This deflection of the thrust of each of the fans (200) is used to provide control authority in pitch, roll and yaw for the aircraft (100) under the control of a fly-by-wire system.
