The invention concerns a method for detecting the presence of biological materials derived from gadiformes selected from the group consisting of Gadidae, Merluccidae, Macruridae and/or Moridae, in an organic substance sample. The invention is characterised in that it consists in determining the presence of mitochondrial DNA derived form gadiformes selected from the group consisting of Gadidae, Merluccidae, Macruridae and/or Moridae, in said organic substance by amplification of at least one mitochondrial DNA sequence or fragment specific of the genome of gadiformes selected from the group consisting of Gadidae, Merluccidae, Macruridae and/or Moridae, and contained in the mitochondrial DNA extracted from said sample, namely at least a sequence or fragment present in the genomes of gadiformes selected from the group consisting of Gadidae, Merluccidae, Macruridae and/or Moridae, but absent in the genome of other animal genus's, and in particular of other animal species.
