<p>A method and apparatus for lifting modular furniture, the apparatus includes an electronically controlled jack (15) and a lifting bar (20) that will engage modular furniture. The lifting apparatus can be interconnected with more than one side for the unit of modular furniture. Each lifting apparatus can be controlled by a master control unit (38) which will cause each lifting apparatus to lift the sides so that modular furniture can be lifted as a unit and maintenance such as painting, and/or removal and replacement of flooring can be accomplished. The lifting apparatus includes a jacking device (15) which may be an electronically controlled screw jack (30), a lifting bar (20) and a plurality of lifting fixtures (25). The lifting fixtures (25) are supported by the lifting bar (20) which is in turn raised by the jack (15). The lifting fixtures will engage slots in slotted splines in the modular furniture so that when the jack is raised and/or lowered the modular furniture will move therewith.</p> |
