METHOD FOR CODING THREE-DIMENSIONAL VOXELS BY USING SKELETONIZATION

PURPOSE: A method for coding three-dimensional voxels by using skeletonization is provided to increase the coding efficiency by reducing voxels required for expressing an image. CONSTITUTION: A method for coding three-dimensional voxels by using skeletonization includes the steps of skeletonizing three-dimensional voxel data to have a hierarchy structure by the hierarchy; predicting radius data of skeletonization points having an equal radius in skeletonized voxels by using a structuring element having a symmetrical structure; predicting the radius data of the skeletonization points connected with a restored image; coding the radius data and location information of the skeletonization points except the predicted points into header information; coding the location information of the predicted points by using a predetermined scanning order(S201-S219); and arithmetically coding bit streams through the former steps(S225).
