PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating a ternary spreading code having a ZCD(Zero Correlation Duration) and a method therefor are provided to generate the spreading code in which a side robe around a peak of an auto-correlation value and a cross correlation value are zero during a uniform duration which is less than (0.75N+1) chips. CONSTITUTION: A ternary auto-correlation duration preferred pair code generating unit(100) expands a code period and generates a ternary ZCD preferred pair code in which a zero correlation characteristic is maintained. A ternary auto-correlation duration code set generator(170) shifts the generated ternary ZCD preferred pair code and generates a ternary ZCD code set.
