PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing an optically active trihaloanilino derivative useful for the production of an antimicrobial compound by an asymmetric reduction, and further to provide an optically active phosphine ligand usable for the production method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active trihaloanilino derivative in a short step in high efficiency comprises treating a mixture comprising a trihaloaniline, 3-hydroxy-2-propanone or a compound obtained by protecting the hydroxy group thereof, a group VIII transition metal complex, and the optically active phosphine ligand, in a hydrogen gas atmosphere, or treating a mixture comprising the trihaloaniline, the 3-hydroxy-2-propanone or the compound obtained by protecting the hydroxy group thereof, in the presence of a catalyst prepared from the group VIII transition metal complex and the optically active phosphine ligand, in the hydrogen gas atmosphere. The optically active phosphine ligand suitable for the production method is also provided. |
